How pace calculator works

Running pace is how long it takes to cover a fixed distance, usually expressed as minutes and seconds per kilometer or per mile. This calculator takes a distance and a finish time and returns your pace.

It converts the distance to both kilometers and miles (1 mile = 1.609344 km), then divides the total time in seconds by each distance to get seconds per kilometer and per mile, formatting the result as MM:SS. It also derives speed in km/h and mph from distance ÷ time.

Use it to plan a race target, check whether you are on pace for a personal best, or compare treadmill speeds to outdoor paces. Enter any race distance — 5K, 10K, half marathon, or marathon — and your finish time to see your pace.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my running pace?
Divide your finish time by the distance. For a 5K (5 km) in 25 minutes, pace = 25 ÷ 5 = 5 minutes per kilometer. This calculator does the math and formats it as 5:00/km.
What is a good running pace?
It depends on your goals. A recreational 5K pace is around 6:00–7:00 per km; a club runner may target 4:00–5:00 per km. Use this tool to find your current pace and set a target.
How do I convert pace to speed?
Speed = distance ÷ time. A pace of 5:00/km means 12 km/h, because 60 minutes ÷ 5 = 12. The calculator shows both pace and speed automatically.
Can I use miles instead of kilometers?
Yes. Choose miles for the distance and the calculator returns pace per mile as well as per kilometer, plus mph and km/h.
